500px

Some time ago I decided to put some of my photos to this awesome site called 500px.

I really like how they present the photos, the usability of the site, how the like/dislike system works and just the overall look and feel of the site.

Promo photos for Five Minutes For Myself

2 weeks ago I had a chance to take promo photos for Five Minutes For Myself. Before the shoot we had a little discussion about what kind of photos they would like to have and we came up with an idea about these 30s or 60s inspired photos. I got inspired by Mad Men (which is awesome show btw!), film noir, Goodfellas, old smoky jazz club etc.

I’m honored that FMFM asked me to take their photos and really happy how the photos turned out!

I used 2 different lenses, Sigma 50mm/1.4 and Canon ts-e 24mm. For lighting I had 2 old Elinchrom Unipacks with cheap  Yongnuo radio flash triggers.

HDR test with Canon 7D bracketing

Some time ago I surprised myself and caught myself reading camera manual. I came across this thing called bracketing and it made me thought that maybe I should try some HDR photographing. I took a lot of HDR photos but have managed to process only two so far.

The first one is about Helsingborg’s city hall and the other one is from a town called Råå. For both photos I used three bracketed exposures (-2, 0, +2) and processed photos with Photoshop’s HDR merge.

How to batch flip images in iPhoto (mirror image)

My stepfather have been scanning a lots of old film photos lately and I’m talking about hundreds of photos here. Today he realized that a lots of photos are scanned backwards so he asked me if I know how he can flip images horizontally and preferably in batch. I found out that iPhoto don’t have flip option but Aperture have. So it is possible to import photos from iPhoto to Aperture and flip images there but since my stepdad has Aperture on another computer that was not an option this time. I googled and tried to find if someone already had an solution to this but I didn’t find anything and decided to do a little Automator application to do this.

The application let’s you choose images from iPhoto and then flips them using Preview’s “Flip Horizontal” or “Flip Vertical” option. After flipping images the application imports images back to iPhoto to a new album named “Flipped images” or to an existing album. NOTE! The application replaces the old images.

You can find the application here.

I have tested this with iPhoto 09 and iPhoto 08.

I also found out that iPhoto won’t update thumbnails automatically after using external editor so you probably need to rebuild thumbnails. More info here.
